いま動けるなら行きたい場所の筆頭、ハワイ島。熔岩に開けられたたくさんの穴（プカ）は、新生児のへその緒（ピコ）を神にささげるためのもの。それがふるさとの定義。
　
If I could travel now, this would be my destination of choice. The island of Hawai’i! This area is called Pu’u Loa (Large Hill) and the name has a kaona (hidden meaning), which is “Hill of Long Life.” When a child is born its umbilical cord (piko) is placed in a small hole (puka) dug on the surface of the lava. That’s how you define your homeland, the spiritual center of your life.

About The Author

すが・けいじろう　　詩人。明治大学理工学部教授（批評理論）、大学院プログラム「場所、芸術、意識」担当。主な著書に『コロンブスの犬』『狼が連れだって走る月』（いずれも河出文庫）、『本は読めないものだから心配するな』『ストレンジオグラフィ』（いずれも左右社）、『斜線の旅』（インスクリプト、読売文学賞）ほか。詩集に「Agend’Ars」４部作および『数と夕方』『狂狗集』（いずれも左右社）、『犬探し/ 犬のパピルス』（Tombac) 、Transit Blues (University of Canberra) など。これまでに10数カ国の詩祭や大学で招待朗読を行なってきた。2013 ~ 14年、文芸誌「すばる」（集英社）に旅先の写真と文章からなる「旅ときりぎりす」を連載。
