奄美大島北部の美しい海岸にも漂着したプラスチックごみは散乱している。散乱どころか、君臨している。発泡スチロールにびっしりと付着しているのはエボシガイ。貝と呼ばれてはいても、むしろカメノテなどに近い甲殻類の航海者だ。しかしプラごみは、どうにかしなくてはならないね。たとえば毎週日曜日の午前８時から９時までの１時間、ビーチ利用者全員参加でゴミ拾いをやったらどうだろう。焼石に水と思われるかもしれないが、やる価値はあるだろう。島全体としてそんな試みを果たせるところがあるとしたら、それは奄美大島。 Plastic waste washed ashore litters the pristine coastlines in northern Amami Oshima. Sadly, it reigns. Densely attached to the Styrofoam are helmet shells. Though called shells, they are crustacean navigators closer to percebes. But we must do something about this plastic waste. For example, what if every Sunday from 8 to 9 a.m., all beachgoers spent an hour picking up trash? Participation mandatory. It might seem like a drop in the ocean, but it's worth doing. If any island could pull off such an initiative, it would be Amami Ōshima.

アマミノクロウサギの「ノ」は助詞ではなく、野うさぎの「野」だそうだ。奄美野黒兎と瑠璃懸巣はおともだち。彫像に生命はないが、この島ではどちらも本物が力強く生きている。いつまでも仲良くね。瀬戸内町きゅら島交流館にて。 The “no” in Amami no kuro usagi isn't a particle; it comes from “no” meaning wild. The Amami wild black rabbit and the blue jay are friends! Though this splendid statue has no life, both the real ones thrive powerfully on this island. May they always get along.

第45回 憧れるのはやめましょう──『虞美人草』とミメーシス
夏目漱石『虞美人草』のヒロイン甲野藤尾は、24歳ながら、恋の駆け引きに長じている。彼女の英語の家庭教師を務める、恩賜の銀時計を得た文学士、小野清三を手玉にとる。 「愛の神は今が盛（さかり）である。緑濃き黒髪を婆娑とさばいて春風に織る羅（うすもの）を、蜘蛛の囲（い）と五彩の軒に懸けて、自（みずから）と引き掛る男を待つ。引き掛った男は夜光の璧を迷宮に尋ねて、紫に輝やく糸の十字万字に、魂を逆にして、後の世までの心を乱す。女はただ心地よげに見遣る*1。」 ある日の夕刻、藤尾は兄、そして兄の友人、宗近一とともに、不忍池の周辺で催された博覧会に出掛ける。たまたま見掛けたのが、かつて京都で世話になった井上父娘を博覧会見物へ案内する小野だった。漱石は、井上小夜子の美貌を描く。

1891年、震度7の大地震が発生。土地に6メートルのずれが発生した。これが根尾谷断層。まのあたりにして息を呑む。岐阜県本巣市の地震断層観察館にて。 In 1891, a major earthquake of seismic intensity 7 struck. This caused the land shift by six meters. The Neodani Fault. Witnessing it firsthand takes your breath away. At the Earthquake Fault Observation Museum in Motosu, Gifu.

岐阜県揖斐川町の秋の朝、川霧に「むかしの中国」を思う。今年はそういうタイトルの歌も作りました。 One autumn morning in the town of Ibigawa. The dream-like river mist makes me think of Old China. Hey, I wrote a song of that title this year!
